Jesse James
This is the 30th Anniversary Jesse James Tournament coming up Labor Day weekend, and we need everyone's help to make it a success. The tournament will take place on Saturday August 30th at Bielenberg Sports Center in Woodbury. There will be Men's, Women's and Old Boys divisions, and the "Battle for Northfield" (the last place that Jesse James robbed a bank) match between St. Olaf and Carleton colleges' Old Boys sides is a go. That match will be held immediately prior to the championship match.
On Friday Night the 29th, there will be a dinner at Mancini's, and all Pigs and Old Boys are encouraged to attend. Please RSVP to Dan Corley if you are planning to attend. Also on Friday night there will be a reception for all teams in the tournament at Joe & Stan's on West 7th St. in St. Paul that will include a bottomless 'Finnegan's Amber' beer glass purchased by each individual player for the weekend. Saturday night there will also be a big party including food and fun of all varieties.
We want to make this tournament a big success for the 30th Anniversary, so please plan to come out. For more information or volunteer opportunities, please go to the Jesse James page, or contact Ron Musselman.
Summer and SNAFU Results
The Pigs have been in occasional action this summer, with positive results. On June 6th we traveled to Faribault for their 10s tournament. We won all three matches and the tournament title. On July 12th we trekked over to Oshkosh for the Pigfest 10s. The team finished with a record of 2-1 in group play, but unfortunately did not advance to the semifinal round. More recently, we had a friendly match against the Minnesota Under 21 Select Side on July 26th, which we won 35-7. At SNAFU we took 2nd Place - just like last year we trounced the competition on Sat and came into Sunday a little sore and hungover, and the side that beat us was the U 21 provincial Ontario side that didn't even play on Sat.

Jersey Sponsorship Update - SECOND NOTICE
I hope you all haven't forgotten the Special Jersey project we started last summer. This was where a club benefactor could pick up the cost of a jersey. On the jersey would be a special patch with the sponsor's name. It has been a long time coming but this is where we are. The jerseys are here. They are the traditional red and black quads made from a top of the line fabric that looks and feels like cotton but will last for years. The current club patch is located on the left chest area. The sponsor patch was designed off of the original club patch to add the traditional flavor to the project.
All we are waiting for now is your money. The cost is $80.00 per and once I have received the funds the patches will go to the shop to have your name sewn on as a sponsor. Please send the check made payable to SPASF (may be considered to be tax deductible - please consult with your personal tax advisor regarding the penalties for tax evasion )
When you send in your check please confirm the jersey number you prefer to sponsor. Also indicate a 2nd or 3rd choice if your number is not available. Numbers still available are 5,11,12,14-22. Note that as usual the forwards stepped up to the plate and came through - where are the girlie man back line players when you need them? Get your money in and you get the number. Also indicate what you want in the sponsor field, i.e. last name, nick name, etc. The number of letters/spaces is limited so something like "In loving memory of Ace Cohoe" would not fit.
Please send checks to: Joe Wetschka, 2522 Leyland Echo, Woodbury, MN 55125
International (Women's) Rugby in the Twin Cities!
The CanAm Game (USA vs Canada), International Women's Rugby, will be held on August 23 at the National Sports Complex in Blaine. Entrance is $10.00. We are trying to get as many people as possible to the game, not only show our support for the home team but also to try to enhance the chances of more Rugby of this caliber being played in Minnesota.
T-Shirts
Pigs T-shirts were ordered and should arrive this Friday. Half of the shirts will be sold at $10 - $12. The rest of the shirts will be used as a recruiting tool. Please buy a shirt to help defer the recruiting costs.
Rugby World Cup Australia 2003 Tour
The Rugby World Cup will take place next October and November in Australia. So far there are about 7 or 8 folks going: Saulala, Larry, Dan Corley, Craig Skott & 4 guys from Iowa. The plans are to leave on Oct 17th and come back Nov 3rd. The airfare out of LA going into Brisbane is around $1150.00 round trip. The plan is to fly into Brisbane and we will watch Scotland play US on Monday Oct 20th. Then the next day we are going up to the great Barrier Reef for a few days. Then back to Brisbane on Friday to watch Tonga play the All Blacks. We are hoping to get in on an Old boys game on Sat. in Brisbane if we can. Then on sat off to Sydney for a week. Then we are going to watch Canada play Tonga on Wed Oct 29th and USA Play France on Oct 31st. For accommodations we have "and can get more" a 2 bedroom apartment rented in Sydney close to everything at @265.00 per night. In Brisbane and the Great Barrier Reef you will have to will have to get your own rooms. Saulala's Brother lives in Brisbane so he can help you. For the Great Barrier Reef will find something when we get there. Let Dan know ASAP if any one else is interested in joining us or need more information - 651-961-0838 or djcorley49@hotmail.com.
Dues
As the fall season gets under way, we need to step up the collection of dues. $75 for new players and $150 for veterans. Please get your money in to Jeff Lynch as soon as humanly possible.
Contributions
If you have money burning a hole in your pocket waiting to donate it to the club you can send it to Jason Naber or Jeff Lynch. Make your check payable to the Saint Paul Amateur Sports Federation (SPASF) it is a tax deduction. If you would like to use a credit card we can now do that as well.
Newsletter
If you have any information you would like to add to the newsletter , or if you know of someone associated with the club who is not getting the newsletter but would like to, please contact Steve King - steve@mindframe.com Also if you would prefer to get your newsletter by e-mail let Steve know.
